چکیده

Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and T-cell lines from patients with Sezary syndrome (SS) and skin lesions from patients with mycosis fungoides (MF) were examined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for DNA sequences homologous to the human retroviruses human T-lymphotropic virus (HTLV)-I and -11. Results obtained using primers and probes from the taxhex region of HTLV-I indicate that 72% (18/25) of SS patients PBMCs, 8OYo (20/25) of T-cell lines established from SS-PBMC, and 30% (3/10) of skin lesions from MF patients were positive for HTLV-I taxhex region DNA. Sequence analysis of the 127-bp fragment amplified by the tax/rexprimers from 4 of these individuals was found to be identical to that in prototypic HTLV-I. Negative results were obtained using primers and probes from the HTLV-I

Human T Lymphotropic Virus Type I (HTLV-I) Oncogenesis: Molecular Aspects of Virus and Host Interactions in Pathogenesis of Adult T cell Leukemia/Lymphoma (ATL)

The study of tumor viruses paves the way for understanding the mechanisms of virus pathogenesis, including those involved in establishing infection and dissemination in the host tumor affecting immune-compromised patients. The processes ranging from viral infection to progressing malignancy are slow and usually insufficient for establishment of transformed cells that develop cancer in only ...

The Enigma of Human T-Cell Leukemia Virus Type-1 (HTLV-1) Infection in Iran

Human T-cell lymphotropic virus type-I (HTLV-I) was the first human retrovirus associated with malignancy.  The prevalence of HTLV-I infection varies significantly in different regions of the world.  In this study, the prevalence of HTLV-I infection among ethnic Jews living in Shiraz, South of Iran, was investigated. 286 blood samples were obtained.  HTLV-1 antibody assay on serum samples was d...

Specific cutaneous manifestations in adult T cell leukemia/lymphoma

Background and aim: Adult T cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) is an aggresive malignancy which may occur in human T lymphotropic virus1(HTLV1) infected persons. HTLV1 is endemic in Khorasan with prevalence of 2.3% in general population. Since specific cutaneous manifestations of lymphoma may occur in a significant number of patients, we studied ATLL patients in Mashhad.Mate...

Association between mycosis fungoides and human herpes virus 8: A case-control study

Background: Mycosis fungoides is the most common type of primary cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. Its etiopathogenesis, despite numerous studies, remains unclear. Environmental, viral, and genetic factors have been proposed as its potential etiologic factors. In recent years, viral agents of herpes virus family such as human herpes virus 8 (HHV-8) have been noticed. Objective: The aim of this study wa...

آلودگی با ویروس HTLV1 در جهان و خراسان

Since thee beginning of the present century retroviruses have been reported as causative factors that produced transmissible tumors in birds. However, in 1980 Poiesz et al, established, for the first time, a link between a retrovirus and leukemia called Human Lymphotropic Virus Type 1 (HTLV1). Over the course of past 27 years the epidemiology of human T lymphotropic Virus type l has matured. ...
